CalFresh Alert: October 2023 Recertification Dates and Criteria

CalFresh recertification is essential in these states for maintaining eligibility, so enrolling families should not put it off.

CalFresh Alert: The CalFresh program is crucial to many California families’ ability to put nutritious food on the table.

In California, residents can participate in CalFresh, the state’s version of SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).

CalFresh recertification is essential in these states for maintaining eligibility, so enrolling families should not put it off.

To keep my CalFresh benefits active, what do I need?

Recertification for CalFresh must be completed by the 15th of the month after the end of the certification term.

According to the official website, “CalFresh households must’recertify’ their eligibility in order to continue receiving CalFresh benefits.”

To do so, they must submit a new application by the 15th of the month before to the end of their current certification period.

In terms of CalFresh renewal, your certification period is the length of time you were initially registered for the program, which is typically 12 months.

However, a 24-month certification term is instead offered to select homes with elderly or disabled members.

What you need to do in order to maintain your renewal eligibility may vary from family to family and case to case.

When does CalFresh require re-certification after October 2023?

Now that September 15th has passed, the next opportunity to submit your work will not be until October 15th.

If your CalFresh certification period ends in October, you must recertify by the 15th of that month in order to continue receiving benefits in November.

Fortunately, the CalFresh recertification date has been extended.

If your CalFresh certification period is about to expire, the good news is that the local government is required to send you a reminder message.

That’s why it’s so important to update your contact information whenever it changes.
