Chicago Guaranteed Basic Income: How to Secure a $500 Monthly Stimulus Payment in Chicago?

Chicago plans a $500 stimulus program to help citizens overcome poverty and economic hardships following Covid-19. Eligible residents must meet residency and basic cost requirements.

Chicago Guaranteed Basic Income: Chicago is going to implement a $500 stimulus program that will last for the entire year to assist its citizens in rising out of poverty and finding some respite during these difficult economic times following the COVID-19 outbreak and inflation.

Early this year, Mayor of Chicago Brandon Johnson announced an additional $32 million in funding for a program that promised lower-class households in the city $500 every month.

The Chicago Resilient Communities pilot program is receiving additional funding as the city works to spend $576 million that the federal government handed it as part of the American Rescue Plan Act, which President Joe Biden signed into law in 2021.

To avoid having to return the funds to the federal government, the spending must be completed quickly. The mayor highlighted several investments on Tuesday.

“As soon as I took office, I wanted to make sure the federal funds the city got were used to support the communities most affected by the pandemic and the numerous long-standing injustices it exacerbated,” Johnson stated. “My administration has devised a plan to guarantee that these funds are utilized strategically to make a real and tangible difference in the lives of people in Chicago.”

Chicago Guaranteed Basic Income Eligibility

The requirements for eligibility include showing proof that you live in Chicago and having trouble paying for basic things like food, gas, and electricity. People who meet these requirements will be able to get the stimulus as part of the income program that is already in place.

To be qualified, candidates must be at least eighteen years old and show that the COVID-19 pandemic caused the problem by showing proof of lost income, higher costs, or other financial problems that got worse because of the virus.

Evans needs assistance. About the program, Council member Krissie Harris told the reporters, “We all need help, not just one concentrated place.” “I have concerns that there is a need for this guaranteed income outside of one area, and if we’re going to make adjustments, I’d like for it to be open.”

According to Marca, Clare Kelly, a fellow council member, countered, saying, “If you’re poor and you live in the First Ward, or any ward, you need the money the same.”

Chicago Guaranteed Basic Income: How do you apply?

An applicant can obtain the application form on the City’s official website and submit it along with the required paperwork, which includes proof of residency and income, to apply for the program.

Although Mayor Brandon Johnson indicated it will happen soon, the dates for the application’s opening have not yet been verified, so make sure to keep an eye on websites.

After being approved for the program, participants will receive a $500 pre-loaded debit card that they can use for any purpose they choose. A portion of the money for this card comes from the Federal Rescue Plan.
