Colorado 2025 Stimulus Refund: Steps to Claim and What You Can Receive

Colorado residents will receive TABOR refund payments in 2025, with many taxpayers getting over $1,000. Payments depend on filing status and income, and eligible residents must file their 2024 state tax return correctly.

Colorado 2025 Stimulus Refund: Residents in Colorado are set to get a big amount of money back in 2025, because the state collected more tax money than it is allowed to keep. This happens due to the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights, better known as TABOR. The rule sits inside the Colorado Constitution and says that whenever the state takes in more revenue than the legal limit, it must return that extra money to the people. This year, the extra amount is very large, and many taxpayers could receive refunds that go over $1,000.

Colorado Stimulus Check 2025: Eligibility Rules and Payments Date

The Colorado Department of Revenue has already shared the highest refund amounts that people can expect. The final number depends on things like whether someone files taxes alone or with a partner, and how much money they earn. Most people will get the refund automatically as long as they live in Colorado, meet the age rules, and file their 2024 state tax return correctly. If someone does not file the return, the state cannot send the money.

TABOR refunds are often called Colorado’s “stimulus payment,” but they work differently from federal checks. This money comes directly from the TABOR law, which voters approved back in 1992. The rule limits how much money the state government is allowed to save and spend each year.

That limit changes a little every year because it adjusts for inflation and for the state’s growing population. When Colorado collects more money than the limit allows, the law demands that every extra dollar must be sent back to taxpayers, unless the public votes to let the state keep it.
