Extra SNAP Benefits 2024: Many children who rely on school lunches find their appetites increasing as summer draws near. Under the new SUN Bucks program, millions of people seeking solutions will get financial help for groceries.
One of the Biden administration’s “SUN Programs”—that one the Department of Agriculture (USDA) revealed in May—Sun Bucks is a summertime effort These initiatives aim to give qualified households additional food help all summer.
Sun Bucks provides extra money for food aid for households now getting help from programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
The program is anticipated to help almost 21 million youngsters this summer, according to the USDA.
A one-time $120 payment is available to qualified homes with school-age children to be used toward the purchase of fresh food and snacks. The amount is larger in areas like Alaska, Hawaii, and many U.S. territories where food expenditures are higher. Families in Hawaii, for instance, will get $177 this summer.
Even though the USDA offers SUN Bucks all over the country, only 36 states, the District of Columbia, five territories, and two tribes have chosen to participate. SUN Bucks are available to families who are registered with Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR), or SNAP. Households that are eligible for free or reduced-price school meals may also apply.
Applying for SUN Bucks is possible for families who do not currently receive food assistance through their local EBT and SNAP departments. Households who are interested should contact their state agency for application instructions and confirm that funds are available in their area.
SNAP Recertification Deadline July: When to Renew Your Benefits?
If they meet the income requirements, any households with children, regardless of citizenship status, are eligible to apply. Depending on the distribution schedule set by their state, families who now get benefits like SNAP will probably automatically be eligible for SUN Bucks.
The time and means by which new applicants receive SUN Bucks are contingent upon the time and location of their application.
