How to Replenish SNAP Benefits if Your Food Got Spoiled During a Power Outage: A Guide to Getting Assistance

SNAP, a federal assistance program, helps low-income families afford food by providing funds for food purchases, education on nutrition, and job training.

Replenish SNAP Benefits: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which used to be called the Food Stamp Program, is a government aid program in the US that helps low-income people and families buy food every month.

SNAP is a government program run by the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Its main goal is to improve nutrition and reduce food insecurity by giving eligible families money to buy food.

Apart from providing basic food assistance, SNAP also offers additional programs like Employment and Training (E&T) and SNAP-Ed, which educate recipients about nutrition and help them make healthy food choices and stretch their food dollars. E&T also offers job training and support to help participants find employment and self-sufficiency.

Texas Food Stamps Recertification: Don’t Miss Out on SNAP Benefits & File for Recertification

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (JFS) says that households that lose food bought with SNAP benefits during a power outage that lasts four hours or more can ask for replacement benefits. The amount of money they get back can be up to the value of the food they lost, but it can’t be more than their monthly budget.

Households that lost power must fill out JFS Form 07222 and send it to their county’s JFS office within ten days in order to get new benefits. Before taking care of the new request, the department will check how long the outage lasted.
