IRS 8700 Stimulus Payment: What You Need to Know About Claims and Scams

The IRS has stopped rumors of additional stimulus checks post-pandemic, but individuals who missed out may still claim them if they meet eligibility criteria.

IRS 8700 Stimulus Payment: After the COVID-19 pandemic, Americans became familiar with stimulus checks, or Economic Impact Payments (EIPs), designed to provide financial relief during the recession. The IRS quickly shut down rumors of a fourth stimulus check after issuing three rounds of payments in 2020 and 2021.

While no additional federal stimulus payments related to COVID-19 are planned, individuals who missed out on previous stimulus checks may still be able to claim them, as long as they meet the necessary eligibility criteria.

Scammers use fake emails and phone calls to trick people into believing they qualify for new stimulus payments during the pandemic era, mirroring past fraudulent schemes.

While federal stimulus checks related to COVID-19 are no longer being provided, states and the IRS still offer other programs to assist citizens in coping with inflation and other financial difficulties. Due to the widespread usage of the term “stimulus checks” during the pandemic, these more recent payments are frequently mislabeled as such. It’s important to remember, though, that these relief initiatives are not the same as the federal stimulus checks that were provided in 2020 and 2021.

IRS 8700 Stimulus Payment: Scams

Because so many people searched for “IRS $8700 stimulus check IRS.gov” online during the summer, many people thought that the IRS was sending out new stimulus checks for $8,700. It turned out that this claim was not true, though. Even though it has gotten a lot of attention online, there are no official reports or trustworthy news sources that confirm the existence of such a payment.

Robert Marvin, a spokesperson for the IRS, said in a July 2023 press release that scams saying people have received new stimulus checks or government aid payments are becoming more common.

These scams aim to fool people into thinking they are qualified for new stimulus payments related to the pandemic era. They frequently involve phone calls or emails that seem genuine.

The $8,700 stimulus check rumor has gained traction for reasons that are unclear, but it is similar to previous fraudulent schemes that deceive people by offering them “free money”. Scammers spread false advertisements on social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube that purport the IRS, Congress, or the President have approved additional stimulus funds or financial incentives.
