New York stimulus checks coming end of September: Who can get it?

Millions of New Yorkers may soon receive inflation rebate checks starting late September. The payments aim to ease household financial strain, but eligibility depends on income, residency, and meeting the state’s outlined requirements.

New York stimulus checks September: Families in New York have been struggling with prices going higher every month, and now Governor Kathy Hochul said the state will start sending out rebate checks. She explained that this plan will help people deal with rising costs and give back money collected from higher sales taxes during the tough inflation period. Many people waited for this news for a long time, and now it is finally happening.

Who can get the Payment?

To get this payment, people need to have filed the state tax form called IT-201, which is the New York State Resident Income Tax Return.

Also, the income must be under the limits the state has set. Another important part is that you cannot be claimed as a dependent on somebody else’s tax return if you want to receive this money.

How much will people Receive?

Under the final version of the plan, single taxpayers making $75,000 or less will receive a check of $200, and those making $150,000 or less will get $150.

Joint filers who make $150,000 or less will receive $400, and those making $300,000 or less will get $300.

  • Single filers who make $75,000 or less = $200
  • Single filers who make more than $75,000, but not more than $150,000 = $150
  • Joint filers who make  $150,000 or less = $400
  • Joint filers who make more than $150,000, but not more than $300,000 = $300

Governor Hochul said this rebate is another way to reduce pressure on families during this hard time. The state hopes this small step will bring some relief to people as they continue to deal with the rising cost of living.

“The STAR program provides much-needed school tax relief to millions of New York homeowners, and it is in full swing,”  the Governor Hochul said.
