The funds from the first wave were issued on June 18, and they come with a strict expiration date. Any money left on EBT cards after 122 days will automatically disappear. Experts are warning families to check their balances and spend the money quickly. Once the funds expire, they cannot be replaced.

The Summer EBT program is ran by New York State’s Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA). It gives low income families money to buy food, working like SNAP benefits and basically help them survive. Each eligible child can get up to $120 for the summer as well.
