November SSI Payment: Recipients get extra check in November

November brings an unexpected cash boost for Supplemental Security Income recipients due to holidays and Election Day schedule changes, potentially causing an extra payment before important dates like Thanksgiving.

November SSI Payment: As November comes, some people who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can look forward to an unexpected cash boost. This rise is because of a change in the schedule because of holidays and Election Day.

If your standard SSI payment date is on a holiday or weekend, payments are often sent out earlier. This could make it look like you got an extra payment in the same month. This is only a change in when the payment is due and not an extra payment. However, it can help your finances before important dates like Thanksgiving and other holiday costs.

November SSI Payment: Who will receive two checks from SSI?

Due to the way the calendar falls, some 7 million recipients of SSI, a program for low-income elderly and disabled individuals, will receive an additional check next month.

SSI beneficiaries typically get one payment per month. They will, however, receive two payments in November: one on November 1 and another on November 29.

Since December 1st falls on a Sunday, the second check is actually the payment for December, which was delivered early.

What you can expect:

  • People who get SSI will get their November payment on November 1.
  • November 1 is also the date that people who get both SSI and Social Security payments will get their checks. This also goes for people who claimed Social Security before May 1997. This check should have arrived on November 3, but since that’s a Sunday, it will be sent out early.
  • On Friday, November 29, a second SSI check for the December amount will arrive.

It’s possible that recipients will need to make adjustments to their budget even though the schedule shift won’t lower the total amount of payments made during the year.

The payment schedule remains unchanged for individuals who solely receive Social Security retirement payments.

These payments, which fall on November 13, 20, or 27, will be made according to the regular timetable based on birth dates. In addition, Social Security benefits for 2025 will receive a modest 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), which reflects lower inflation than in prior years.
