The company has denied doing anything wrong but still decided to settle the case to avoid any long and costly court fight. The people affected will now be able to claim money for their losses with the biggest payment up up to $7,350 per person.
In March 2024 Panera Bread suffered a cyberattack that allowed outsiders to access its systems. The hackers got sensitive information belonging to employees, contractors and even some suppliers. And because of this, Panera faced a class action lawsuit where victims said the company failed to keep their data safe.
People accused the company of negligence and invasion of privacy. The lawsuit also mentioned that Panera may have violated the California Consumer Privacy Act or “CCPA.” To settle the case the company will pay millions to those affected.
The leak of key and personal data from Panera affected several groups of people, including the following:
Capital One $425M Settlement: How can you claim your share?
People who want to claim money from the settlement must have received an official notice from Panera. The notice would say that their information was exposed during the March 2024 data breach. Only those who live in the United States and got the official notice can make a claim.
Anyone who meets the requirements must file a claim before November 11, 2025. They can do this either online or by mail. Once approved, they will receive payment based on how much they were affected by the breach.
The settlement gives money to cover both small and large financial losses. People can get up to $500 for regular expenses like credit freezes, mailing costs, or paying for credit monitoring services. Those who suffered serious problems, such as identity theft or fraud, can claim up to $6,500.
There is also payment for the time people spent dealing with the issue. They can claim up to 10 hours at $25 an hour, which adds up to $250. This means the total amount one person can receive is up to $7,350.
