How much Money does a Person get?

In May 2025, the average SNAP benefit was $188.45 per person for one month. The amount is not the same everywhere because it depends on things like how much money a family earns, what they spend on important cost and how many people live in the home. Federal law sets a limit for the highest possible benefit.

This limit is tied to something called the Thrifty Food Plan. Congress has chosen to restrict changes to this plan in the future so the government can cut more than $186 billion in spending over the next ten years.

• Guam: Leads the list with the highest rate, where 22.5% of the population is a SNAP recipient.
• New Mexico: It is the state with the second highest rate, with 21.5% of its residents using food stamps.
• District of Columbia: It has a high rate of use, with 20% of its population.
• Virgin Islands: The top spots are closed with 19.9% of users.

• Wyoming: It has the lowest usage rate nationwide, with only 4.6% of its residents receiving benefits.
• Utah: It is closely followed with 5.1%.
