Social Security Changes Planned if Nikki Haley Wins Election

Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley plans to increase the eligibility age for Social Security retirement benefits for younger Americans in the Republican Party's fifth presidential debate.

Social Security Changes: Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley stated on Wednesday that, should she be elected, she would raise the age at which younger Americans would be eligible for Social Security retirement benefits at the Republican Party’s fifth presidential debate of the 2024 election season.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis squared up against Haley at the debate at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. The front-runner in the GOP candidature for president in 2024, former president Donald Trump, rejected to host CNN’s invitation to the debate, and the other Republicans did not fulfil CNN’s qualifications.

When the moderators brought up the subject of Social Security, DeSantis stated that he disagreed with raising the retirement age because life expectancy is dropping. However, Haley stated that those in their 20s should anticipate working greater hours.

“I don’t see how you can raise the retirement age when our life expectancy is collapsing in this country,” DeSantis stated. “That’s a huge problem in and of itself.”

Social Security Changes

Should Haley win the presidency, should people in their 20s “plan on having to work until they’re 70″? CNN’s Jake Tapper posed this question to Haley. Claimants born in 1960 or later are required by current U.S. legislation to wait until they are 67 to begin receiving their full retirement payments.

They ought to provide for an increase in the retirement age. Indeed, we will adjust it to reflect the longer life expectancy that Black people should have,” Haley stated, although she did not specify the specific age at which she would suggest lifting the threshold.

“We have to go and start looking at what we can do to get out of this,” she stated. “We want to make sure that everybody who was promised gets it [benefits], but we also want to make sure our kids have something when they get it, too.”

Election

Haley also accused DeSantis of lying when he voted three years in a row to raise the retirement age to 70 years old during the Social Security debate.

“He is free to refer to me by any name and to belittle me whenever he pleases. The fact that Ron is losing doesn’t alter the reality that he is lying. Everyone in the nation recognises it for what it is,” the woman remarked.

“One of the things that I think we disagree on is Governor Haley’s statement that social security is an entitlement,” DeSantis said.

“But it’s not an entitlement,” he went on. You’re funding it. This isn’t a welfare scheme. For this, you have paid taxes all of your life. You anticipate reaping rewards in the long run.”
