Why Are March’s SSI Payments Coming Early?

SSI payments usually go out on the first of the month. But if the first falls on a weekend or holiday, the SSA sends the payment on the last working day before that. Since March 1 is a Saturday, March’s SSI payments will go out on February 28.

This also happened in January. Because February 1 was a weekend day, February’s SSI payments were sent out on January 31. The SSA will return to its regular schedule in April, with payments going out on Tuesday, April 1.

How Much Do SSI Recipients Get in 2025?

Thanks to the cost of living adjustment (COLA), SSI payments have increased in 2025. Here’s how much beneficiaries can expect:

• Individuals: Up to $967 per month.
• Couples: Up to $1,450 per month.
• Essential Persons: Up to $484 per month.

When Do Other Social Security Recipients Get Paid?

Most Social Security recipients get their payments on one of three Wednesdays in February, depending on their birthdate:

• February 12: For those born between the 1st and 10th of the month.
• February 19: For those born between the 11th and 20th of the month.
• February 26: For those born between the 21st and 31st of the month.

There are some exceptions:

• People who started receiving benefits before May 1997 get their payments on the 3rd of the month, no matter their birthdate.
• Some people receive both SSI and regular Social Security benefits. They get SSI on the 1st of the month and their regular benefits on the 3rd of the month.
