The SSA uses its extensive job database to ascertain whether an applicant is still qualified for any position, depending on their competency.
However, because this database hasn’t been updated since 1977, critics have branded it unfair and faulty. Jobs that are deemed obsolete and no longer even exist are included in this data. Due to the new regulations, jobs like “reptile farmer,” “railroad telegrapher,” and “atch repairer” will no longer be listed in this database. This decision was made public after the Washington Post covered the case. 114 vocations in all are being removed from this database.
