SSDI Eligibility Changes: New Changes Allow Disabled Individuals to Work and Still Qualify

The Social Security Administration has made significant changes to eligibility requirements for disability payments, aiming to increase the number of disabled individuals eligible for these benefits.

SSDI Eligibility Changes: The Social Security Administration has announced important changes to the requirements for getting disability payments. The goal of the changes to SSDI eligibility is to help more disabled people who are looking for work stay eligible for these programs.

These changes have to do with how the program now decides, based only on credentials, whether a disabled candidate can be hired. Before this change, trying to get a job disqualified them automatically. Alternatively, it could lead to their denial of the SSDI benefits application.

The SSA uses its extensive job database to ascertain whether an applicant is still qualified for any position, depending on their competency.

However, because this database hasn’t been updated since 1977, critics have branded it unfair and faulty. Jobs that are deemed obsolete and no longer even exist are included in this data. Due to the new regulations, jobs like “reptile farmer,” “railroad telegrapher,” and “atch repairer” will no longer be listed in this database. This decision was made public after the Washington Post covered the case. 114 vocations in all are being removed from this database.

Psychologists, engineers, geographers, astronomers, genealogists, historians, radio officers, and pretty much any other profession you can think of that doesn’t require any kind of physical labour are among the many occupations that are still in demand.

Still, some occupations require little physical labour, like models, cooks, and scuba divers. The Social Security Administration website has the entire list. Millions of Americans with disabilities will find it easier to live with this change, according to the SSA.
