SSDI is a federal program that supports people who have a medical condition that makes it hard or impossible for them to work. It is not the same as Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

To make sure payments go out smoothly, the Social Security Administration (SSA) uses a special payment schedule. Every month, the 7.4 million SSDI recipients get their money on different Wednesdays. The date depends on when their birthday is. This staggered system helps SSA send out payments more easily and avoid delays.

SSDI Payment May 2025: When SSDI Payments Arrive?

The SSA does not base your payment on how serious your disability is. Instead, they look at your average lifetime earnings before you became disabled. So, the amount you get depends on what you earned when you were working.

The SSA sends payments on:

Second Wednesday of the month: If your birthday falls between the 1st and 10th.
Third Wednesday of the month: If your birthday falls between the 11th and 20th.
Fourth Wednesday of the month: If your birthday falls between the 21st and 31st.
