SSDI Payment Schedule: Those who rely on Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits have great news ahead! On Wednesday, July 17, much-needed funds will be distributed to those born between the 11th and 20th of any given month. Some lucky SSDI recipients, however, could find a pleasant surprise in double payouts. Reading on will help you see if you fall among them.
Since 1997, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has started applying a birthdate-based, staggered payment schedule. The following is the summary:
Thus, if your birthday occurs between July 11 and July 20, put this Wednesday, July 17, on your calendar—your SSDI check will be arriving soon!
Payments are made to certain beneficiaries on different dates. For example, if you received Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or were registered for SSDI before May 1997, you will receive your payment on the first of the month. You get paid on the third of the month if you live overseas or if your state covers your Medicare premiums.
But there’s still more! In some months, some SSDI claimants may get two payments. This peculiarity results from the SSA’s practice of paying in advance for appointments that fall on weekends or public holidays.
Usually, the first of the month finds your money sent to you. If the first happens on a weekend or holiday, the payment is made on the following working day. This schedule creates opportunities for two payments in one month.
Consider the month of May. On May 1, beneficiaries got their first payment. However, their payment was on Friday, June 30, as July 1 fell on a Saturday. This means two deposits in the same month, which doesn’t mean additional money.

August presents another opportunity to receive double payments. The SSA will forward the September payment to Friday, August 30, even though August 1 is a Monday and September 1 falls on a Sunday. This implies that beneficiaries will get their payouts for August and September in the same month.
