SSI is different because it doesn’t follow the normal plan for Social Security Administration benefits. Most people who get SSI will get their monthly check on the first of the month, no matter what day it is as long as it’s a work day. People who get SSI, on the other hand, will get their money on Friday if the first of the month is a Saturday or Sunday.
Social Security funds are paid out at different times for different people, depending on their date of birth.
Here is how Social Security payments will be made in May 2024:
- If your birthday is between January 1 and May 10, the SSA will give you your check on May 8, which is the second Wednesday of the month.
- If you were born between May 11th and May 20th, the SSA will give you your payment on May 15th, which is the third Wednesday of the month.
- If you were born between May 21 and May 31, the SSA will send you your benefit payment on May 29 (the fourth Wednesday of the month).

No one needs to worry about their May 2024 SSI payment. SSI benefits will be sent to you on May 1, 2024. Here are the times that Social Security will pay out in May 2024:
May 1: If you get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) from the Social Security Administration, you will get your May 2024 Social Security check on Monday, May 1.
May 3rd: If you meet one of the following conditions, you will get your May 2024 SSI payment on Friday, May 3rd:
In other words, you live somewhere outside of the United States.
SSI benefits are added to your Social Security payments.
- Your state covers the cost of your Medicare premiums.
- Prior to 1997, you applied for Social Security benefits.
Dates of Payment for the More “Regular” in May 2024 Benefits from Social Security
On the following dates, Social Security benefit checks for recipients of Social Security retiree benefits, disability benefits, survivor’s benefits, and other non-SSI benefits will be issued in May 2024:
May 8th: On Wednesday, May 8th (the second Wednesday in May), if your birthday falls between the first and tenth of the month, you will receive your Social Security payment for May 2024.
May 15th: If your birthday is between May 11th and May 20th, 2024, your Social Security payment will be sent on May 15th, 2024, which is the third Wednesday in May.
Wednesday, May 22, 2024, is the fourth Wednesday in May. If your birthday is on or after May 21, 2024, you will get your May 2024 Social Security payment on this day.
