What are the plans proposed by STAR?

The STAR credit has two plans to choose from:

• Basic STAR: This modality exempts the first $30,000 of the total assessed value of a home from school property taxes, applicable to owner-occupied principal residences. The income limit to be eligible under the Basic program is $500,000.
• Enhanced STAR: This is an additional benefit aimed at people aged 65 or older. For the 2025-2026 school year, beneficiaries must have incomes of up to $107,300 or less.

Check When Your STAR Check Will Arrive

The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance made an online tool that helps people find out if STAR checks have started going out in their area. Mailing dates are not the same for everyone because the schedule depends on where you live. Each school district and municipality has a different timeline.

For example, if you live in the city of Syracuse, you may get your check starting in mid-July. But if you live in the Jamesville-DeWitt school district in the town of DeWitt, you might not see your check until late August or even mid-September. Who Can Get the STAR 2025 Credit?

Not every homeowner will qualify. To be eligible for the STAR credit, your total household income must be under $500,000. Also, the property you’re applying for must be your main home. That means you live there most of the year. If you meet those rules, you should get the STAR credit check for 2025.
