SUN Bucks 2025: Full list of stores where you can use the summer food benefit

SUN Bucks 2025 lets families buy food during summer using an EBT card. You can shop at most grocery stores and even online at places like Walmart and Amazon, depending on your state.

SUN Bucks 2025: During summer, many families in the U.S. find it hard to feed their children. This becomes a big problem especially for those who depend on school meals during the school year. To help solve this issue, the U.S. government started a program called SUN Bucks. This program gives families money to buy food while school is closed.

SUN Bucks 2025: What stores accept SUN Bucks?

SUN Bucks works by giving the money on a special card. This card is called an EBT card. It looks and works just like a debit card. Families can use this card in most grocery stores and supermarkets that take SNAP benefits. These are the same places where people who use food stamps shop. Some of the most stores where you can use SUN Bucks are:

  1. Walmart.
  2. Target (in the grocery section).
  3. Aldi.
  4. Kroger.
  5. Costco (only in some states).
  6. Safeway.
  7. Publix.
  8. H-E-B.
  9. Food 4 Less.
  10. Local Hispanic stores and community markets that accept SNAP.

Summer Food Stamps July 2025: How Much Can You Get?

Can you use SUN Bucks Online?

The good news is that many stores also let people use this card online. Walmart and Amazon, for example, allow digital purchases with these benefits in certain regions of the country. If someone wants to shop online, they just need to go on the store’s website or app, sign in, and register the card. Then they can order food that is allowed under the program and either pick it up or have it delivered.

SUN Bucks money is only for food. Families can buy lots of different items like fresh fruits, vegetables, milk, eggs, cheese, bread, cereals, meat, chicken, fish, rice, and pasta. They can also buy frozen foods, healthy snacks, and drinks like 100% natural juices. But they cannot use it to buy things like soda or candy. This is because the goal of the program is to help kids eat healthy meals while they are not in school.

How Families Can Get SUN Bucks?

Some families already get this help without needing to apply. “Your child automatically qualifies if they receive free or reduced-price school lunches, or if your family already participates in programs such as SNAP, TANF or Medicaid.” So if a kid gets lunch help at school or if the family is part of these other government programs, then they may already get SUN Bucks.

To find out for sure, families can check their state’s website. Each state runs its own part of the program. For example, families in California can visit cdss.ca.gov/sun-bucks to see if they can get the help. Families can also ask their school district for help if they’re not sure where to check.
