California introduces CalFresh summer program to address food insecurity for low-income residents during summer breaks. CalFresh, SNAP, provides monthly benefits for healthy eating and food security.
SUN Bucks Card Activation: To address food insecurity for low-income American residents during the summer months off from school, the State of California will introduce a new summer program as part of the CalFresh program. But how does it operate and how is it activated?
CalFresh, which used to be called the Food Stamp Program and is now officially known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), is California’s plan to fight hunger and improve nutrition.
It gives low-income people and families monthly benefits that they can use to buy food. This is done with the approval of the California Department of Social Services to encourage healthy eating and food stability.

Benefits are transferred electronically through an EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) card, which functions a lot like the SUN Bucks card and can be used at approved retailers like supermarkets, farmers’ markets, and some internet merchants.
Similar to how CalFresh EBT cards need to be used to maintain funding and remain active, the card must be used within 122 days of funds being put into it for it to be operational.
The SUN Bucks card, often referred to as a Summer EBT (S-EBT), will provide families with $120 for each qualifying child so they can make sure their school-age children are fed and well-nourished over the summer break.
For CalFresh or Medi-Cal, cards will be sent automatically to the address that is mentioned. Any child between the ages of 6 and 18 who is enrolled in these programs will immediately be able to get SUN Bucks.
To go along with this, kids and young people under 22 who are enrolled in a national breakfast or school lunch program and get free or low-cost meals will also be automatically registered in the program.
Children enrolled in CEP/Provision 1, 2, or 3 schools may also qualify; however, to obtain the alternative income form, which is contingent on application clearance, the claimant must get in touch with their school.
Immigration status has no bearing on one’s ability to participate in any aspect of the SUN Bucks Card program. For any more inquiries regarding your eligibility or help using your SUN Bucks card, call the SUN Bucks Helpline at (877)328-9677.
