Texas TANF Eligibility: Who is eligible for Temporary Assistance?

In this program, cash payments are made so that needy families can meet their basic needs, such as food, clothing, rent, furniture, transportation, and telephone service.

Texas TANF Eligibility: The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program provides financial assistance to families who are experiencing a temporary set back. Here are the requirements for qualifying for this benefit in Texas.

In this program, cash payments are made so that needy families can meet their basic needs, such as food, clothing, rent, furniture, transportation, and telephone service.

Through TANF, state funds are used to provide cash assistance to families with two parents receiving benefits and children who are deprived of parental support due to the unemployment or underemployment of one parent.

Texas’ TANF program is designed for low-income families with children under 18 years old. Families may include parents and their children or relatives caring for related children.

December TANF Benefits Texas: When will the payment arrive for December?

Who is eligible for TANF benefits in Texas?

Texas Health and Human Services determines whether a family is eligible for the benefit by considering the amount of money the family has, the value of things it owns or pays for, and the amount spent on child care or child support.

Furthermore, the parent or family member receiving the benefit must also commit to carry out a series of actions in order to improve their economic situation as part of the program.

The actions are as follows:

  • Find a job or train for one.

  • Ensure that child support laws are followed.

  • Not quit a job.

  • Make sure you do not abuse alcohol or drugs.

  • Take a parenting skills course.

  • Vaccinate your children.

  • Ensure that your child attends school.

Assisting the beneficiary in meeting these requirements is the responsibility of Texas HHS.

One-time TANF and One-time TANF for Relatives

A one-time TANF is similar to regular support, but it is only available once a year to low-income families who are experiencing financial hardship.

The benefit is available only to families with children under 18 years of age who are experiencing unique circumstances, such as loss of employment or home or a medical emergency.

One-time TANF for Relatives provides a one-time lifetime payment of $1,000 to relatives caring for one or more related children who receive TANF benefits.

Grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, and other blood relatives can receive financial assistance if they are over 25 years of age, low income, and care for a child who already receives TANF.

In addition to its official websites and social media profiles, the Texas government offers advice and more information.
