The Average Net Worth for Wealth in 12 US Cities: What does “wealth” mean to you personally? In Schwab’s sixth annual Modern Wealth Survey, which included 1,000 respondents, it was found that having an average net worth of $2.2 million qualified one as affluent. But among the 48% of Americans who feel affluent today, the average net worth is $560,000, or approximately a fifth of the aforementioned millions.

In order to determine how much money it takes to be affluent in particular cities and geographic locations, Schwab’s Modern Wealth Survey also examines these places. Here are the average net worth requirements for riches in 12 American cities in 2023, listed in alphabetical order.

  • To be affluent, one needs a net worth of $2.9 million on average.
  • Financial contentment requires an average net worth of $932,000.

  • Financial contentment requires an average net worth of $817,000.

Dallas
