The Soft Launch of 2024-25 FAFSA: When to Expect the Opening?

FSA will take breaks to fix bugs on the site and make technology changes as needed to make things better for students and their families.

The Soft Launch of 2024-25 FAFSA: The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form for 2024–25 is not yet available because the FSA is getting ready for a soft start. During the soft start, students and families will be able to access the FAFSA form on a regular basis while FAFSA checks the site’s performance and the form’s ability to work.

FSA will take breaks to fix bugs on the site and make technology changes as needed to make things better for students and their families.

Between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, students and their families can fill out the form to apply for financial aid to help pay for college. You will have a lot of time to fill out the FAFSA. Your information will be saved if you send in your form during the soft start. You won’t have to send in your form or any other information again. If you or someone in your family tries to view your form and can’t, please try again later.

Updates and New Things

The 2024–25 FAFSA form makes it easier for students and their families to apply for government student help, such as Pell Grants, and makes it easier for more people to qualify. Applicants may be able to skip up to 26 questions, based on their unique situations. There were people who could answer as few as 18 questions in less than 10 minutes.

What Comes Next After You Send It?

When you send in your 2024–25 Federal Student Aid form, you’ll get an email letting you know that FAFSA got it and giving you some basic information about your federal student aid status.

In late January, the FSA sends your school(s) and state details about your FAFSA status. Your school(s) will send you specialized aid information in the next few weeks once they get your FAFSA information. Your school(s) and state won’t be able to tell you if you’re eligible for help or what your position is until they get your form.

We’ll let you know by email when your FAFSA information has been sent to the schools you chose. In late January, you can also go to StudentAid.gov to see how your FAFSA form is going.

Many states have changed how they give aid for the 2024–25 school year, so please check your state’s details on who can get aid and when the deadlines are.
