VA Benefits in 2026: Veterans who receive VA disability compensation will get more money in 2026. The Department of Veterans Affairs will increase monthly payments through the yearly cost of living update. This change helps benefits keep up with inflation as daily costs like food, rent, and medicine continue to rise. Around 6.5 million veterans get this tax free payment. For many of them, this yearly update is the most important change they see in their benefits.
For 2026, VA disability compensation will go up by 2.8 %. This increase is the same as the one given to Social Security benefits. The new rate will apply to all VA disability payment levels. Even though the monthly increase may look small, it adds up over a full year.
Chapter 35 VA Benefits: Why January 2026 Payments Arrive in February?
VA disability payments depend on two main things. The first is the disability rating. The second is whether the veteran has dependents like a spouse, children, or dependent parents. Disability ratings show how serious a service related health problem is. The VA gives ratings in steps of 10 %, starting from 10 % and going up to 100 %. Veterans with more than one condition receive a combined rating.
At the lower level, veterans with a 10 % disability rating will see their payment rise from $175.51 in 2025 to $180.42 in 2026. Veterans with a 20 % rating will get more as well. Their monthly amount will increase from $346.95 to $356.66. Every higher rating will also get a matching increase based on the same formula.
At the highest level, veterans rated at 100 % disability will also see a clear boost. The standard maximum payment will rise from $4,544.23 in 2025 to $4,671.47 in 2026. This amount applies to veterans who have a spouse, one child, and two dependent parents. Veterans with more dependents may receive even more than this amount.
VA Confirms 2026 Pay Changes for 100% Disabled Veterans
Veterans will not have to wait until January to see the higher payment. VA disability compensation is paid at the end of each month for the month that just ended. Because of this, the first payment with the 2.8 % increase will arrive on December 31, 2025. The VA has also confirmed that payments will continue at the end of every month in 2026, with small changes if a date falls on a weekend or federal holiday.
