VA Dental Benefits: Veterans who qualify for VA dental benefits may receive full or partial dental care through the VA. However, understanding eligibility criteria and navigating the application process can seem overwhelming.
Before you apply for VA dental care, it’s important to know if you meet the requirements. Veterans may be able to get help if they meet certain service and discharge requirements. For this, you need to have served in the army, navy, or air force without getting a dishonorable discharge.
Some veterans may also be eligible for “enhanced eligibility,” which puts them in a higher priority group and makes it more likely that they will get VA dental benefits.
If any of the following describe you, you may be eligible for enhanced eligibility:
Applying for VA dental care benefits is straightforward. Veterans need to complete VA Form 10-10EZ, the health care application form, and must be enrolled in the VA health care system. The form can be submitted online.
Once enrolled, veterans can access care at any of the 200+ VA dental clinics nationwide, including those in Alaska and Puerto Rico.

If you were discharged within the last 180 days and your DD214 indicates no dental exam at separation, you may qualify for a free exam. Veterans with dental trauma from military service may also be eligible for lifetime care for that injury.
Veterans can still get dental care through the VA Dental Insurance Program (VADIP), even if they can’t get care from the VA. Veterans and their families who qualify can get affordable dental insurance through VADIP. This insurance covers emergency care, preventive care, and other services.
The program works with companies like MetLife and Delta Dental and offers different levels of coverage to meet the needs of each person. Being aware of your eligibility and following the application process will help you make sure you use the VA’s dental care options.
As a veteran, you can take care of your teeth through direct benefits or the VA Dental Insurance Program.
