VA Disability Claim Status: Discover the 5 Stages of the VA Claim Process and How Long It Takes

The VA disability claim procedure, despite appearing complex, takes an average of 151.2 days due to case intricacy, claim nature, condition asserting, and documentation requirements.

VA Disability Claim Status: The VA disability claim procedure appears drawn out and difficult at first. It can, however, be summed up in only five steps, which we outline in this post.

The VA estimates that the process takes an average of 151.2 days. This duration is contingent upon the intricacy of your case, the nature of the claim you made, the number of conditions you assert, and the length of time the Department needs to obtain the required documentation.

VA Disability Claim Status

Claim Received

The VA notifies you of your claim’s receipt when you submit it online or by mail. The application is immediately notified by the system through an on-screen notice if it is completed online.

The VA notifies you by return mail if you mailed in your application. After the VA accepts your application, you should receive the notification letter within a week, including postage time.

Initial Review

The VA examines your claim at this step to gather the fundamental data required to handle your application. It examines your name, Social Security number, and medical records among other things.

If any of this information is missing or if additional information is required, the VA will get in touch with you.

Gathering Evidence, Review, and Decision

Despite being three distinct steps, they are interconnected.

The VA will examine your initial application to ensure that all required documentation has been received to rate you. Should any details be absent, you will be prompted to provide more proof. It will analyze your VA medical records and obtain your documents from your private healthcare practitioner. You will be required to take a claim exam as well.

The Department will examine every piece of available evidence. If additional information is still required, though, it will go back to the evidence-gathering phase.

Your disability rate will be assigned by the VA upon the completion of the review process. It is possible, though, that even at this stage there could be some questions. In that case, the Department might ask you to provide the relevant data, which would take the procedure back to the stage of gathering evidence.

Getting the Notification Ready

The VA will draft your determination letter after the preceding stage is finished. The letter will specify your disability rate, monthly payment amount, and the start date of your payments if you qualify for disability benefits.

Should you provide more proof before getting your decision letter, the VA would immediately go back to the initial round of collecting information.

Final Choice

Your claim and your decision letter will be finalized by a senior reviewer. In the claim status tool, you can examine your decision letter if you qualify for disability benefits.

The decision letter you received will also be mailed to you by the VA. You should expect this letter within ten business days.
