VA Disability Payment Schedule: September 2025: When veterans can expect checks?

Veterans receiving VA disability benefits will see their September 2025 payments issued on the first business day of the month, with eligibility tied to approved disability ratings and dependent status.

VA Disability Payment Schedule: As fall comes closer, many veterans are keeping a close eye on their VA disability payments. These checks are a lifeline for a lot of families, and knowing exactly when the money comes is important for planning bills, rent, and everyday costs.

VA Disability Payment Schedule

The VA usually sends out disability payments on the very first business day of the new month. But if that day happens to be a Saturday, Sunday, or a holiday, then the VA pushes the payment back to the last working day of the previous month.

VA Chapter 35 Payment September 2025: When to expect the Payment?

For September 2025, the payment will land on Wednesday, October 1. That’s because October starts on a regular business day. But this isn’t always the case. In some months, like August 2025, the date moved around a little. That time, veterans received their checks on Tuesday, September 2, because of how the calendar lined up.

Who Qualifies?

To get VA disability pay, veterans need to have a disability that is connected to their time in service. The VA gives a percentage rating, and the amount of money you get depends on that rating. Veterans who have dependents, like a spouse, children, or even parents, may also see their monthly payments increase.

In 2025, veterans are getting a 2.5% increase in their disability checks thanks to the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). This boost started back on December 1, 2024, and has carried on through this year’s payments. The raise is there to help match the rising cost of living and inflation.

Here’s what that looks like:

  • 10% rating: around $175.51/month
  • 100% rating: approximately $3,831.30/month

On top of that, there’s also Special Monthly Compensation (SMC) for those who have more serious disabilities or unique needs. This extra support also got the 2.5% increase this year.

The September check will arrive as expected on October 1. If a veteran checks their account and the money isn’t there, the best step is to call the VA Veterans Help Line at 800-827-1000 (TTY: 711).
