Verizon may pay a $100 million settlement in 2024 to customers with at least seven years of postpaid cellphone plans who were sued for deceptive service plans
Verizon Customers Settlement Payout: In 2024, a $100 million settlement of a class action lawsuit may be due to you if you were a Verizon subscriber for at least seven years and had a regular postpaid cellphone plan. Verizon is footing the bill to settle lawsuits alleging that its service plans were deceptive due to the absence of an administrative fee from the advertised costs.
The plaintiffs in the lawsuit claimed (PDF) that Verizon cellular established, tallied, and raised an administrative fee unfairly and deceptively for postpaid internet or cellular services.
Verizon “clearly identifies and describes its wireless consumer Admin Charge multiple times during the sales transaction, as well as in its marketing, contracts and billing,” a company representative told CNET in a statement. This fee aids in our business’s recovery of some network-related and regulatory compliance expenses.”
This is all the information you need to know about the proposed settlement, including who can get up to $100 in payments and how to file a claim. Here’s how to find out if you may claim any money or property in your state.
If you are a current or past Verizon customer in the United States who paid an administrative fee or an administrative and telecom recovery charge between January 1, 2016, and November 8, 2023 for postpaid cellular or data services, you could qualify.
With a postpaid cellular plan, users pay for the service at the conclusion of their billing cycle, after using it. Customers who bought prepaid plans from Verizon are not included in the settlement.
Verizon stated that as of September 30, 2023, it serves around 93 million retail postpaid customers in an October information sheet.
The official Verizon administrative charge settlement website states that you are qualified to submit a claim if you were notified about the settlement via letter or email.
VA Loan Requirements: How Does It Work?
Verizon will contribute $100 million to a settlement fund in the event that the settlement is authorised and carried out. Customers who submit legitimate claims by the deadline may be eligible to earn a settlement payment of up to $100 per claim, contingent on the length of their Verizon subscription and the number of valid claims they submit.
A claim form is available on the settlement’s administration website for qualified class members to complete and submit online.
A hardcopy form can also be downloaded (PDF), completed, and mailed to this address:
Settlement Administrator, c/o Verizon Administrative Charge Settlement, 1650 Arch St., Suite 2210, Philadelphia, PA 19103
The claim period ends at 11:59:59 p.m. PT on April 15, 2024.
Payments will be sent by cheque or electronic transfer upon approval and finalisation of the settlement, according to the settlement FAQ. The date of the hearing is March 22, 2024.
