Verizon Settlement: Millions of Customers to Receive $100 Million Compensation for Extra Charges

Verizon has started sending $100 million settlement payments to customers hit by extra charges. Eligible users can receive between $5 and $100 through Zelle, PayPal, Venmo, direct deposit, or checks.

Verizon Settlement Compensation: Verizon will pay $100 million to settle a lawsuit about extra charges on postpaid wireless bills. These charges called “Administrative Charges” and “Telco Recovery Fees” were added from January 2016 to November 2023. Customers said Verizon did not explain them properly and it made their bills higher. Verizon said they did nothing wrong but decided to settle to avoid a long court fight.

Who Is Eligible for Compensation?

Customers who meet the following criteria are eligible for compensation:

  • Held a Verizon postpaid wireless or data plan between January 1, 2016, and November 8, 2023.
  • Were charged “Administrative Charges” or “Telco Recovery Fees” during this period.
  • Filed a valid claim by the deadline of April 15, 2024.
  • Did not opt out of the settlement.

Amazon 1.5 Billion Settlement: Amazon Prime users eligible for payments up to $51

Verizon used its own billing records to decide who could get money, so customers did not need to send receipts or old bills. But anyone who missed the deadline or opted out will not get any payment.

How Much Compensation Will Eligible Customers Receive?

People who qualified for the settlement are getting paid using a court-approved formula. Each eligible account gets a base of $15 plus $1 for every month the fees were charged, but the total cannot exceed $100 per person. The payments come after legal and administrative costs are taken out of the fund.

When will Payments get Distributed?

Verizon is sending the settlement money in waves. Customers who chose electronic payments like Zelle, PayPal, or direct deposit got their money first. People waiting for paper checks will get theirs later. This process will continue into early 2026.

How to Check Payment Status?

Customers who received confirmation notices can track their payment status through the official settlement website or by contacting the administrator’s helpdesk. Delays are possible for mailed checks, which can take one to two months to process once issued.
