Why You’re Getting Three Social Security Payments in May? And Why It’s Not Extra Money

In May 2025, some Social Security and SSI recipients will receive three payments. The third payment is an early June disbursement, not an additional benefit. It's a result of calendar adjustments.

May Extra Social Security Payments: People who get Social Security or SSI money each month may see three payments in May 2025. This is making some people confused while some may think maybe they are getting a bonus. But the Social Security office says this is not a special gift or extra money. It’s just how the payment dates worked out this time.

People usually get their Social Security or SSI payments once a month. This money is very important. For many it’s their only money. Older people and those with disabilities use it to pay rent, buy food, and cover basic needs. Some rely on it for 90% of their income. So, when an extra payment comes, it’s a big deal, and people start wondering what’s going on.

Who Will Receive Texas SNAP Payments Between May 12 and 18, 2025?

But here’s what really happened. In May, there are three payments, but only because of how the calendar is set. The government doesn’t send money on weekends. If a payment is supposed to go out on a weekend or holiday, it gets sent earlier. So, the June SSI payment is getting sent out in May instead. That’s why people are seeing three payments in May. It’s not more money, just early money.

So even though it feels like a bonus, it’s actually the regular June payment coming early. This has happened before, and it might happen again if the first day of the month falls on a weekend. The Social Security office made it clear: people should not expect another payment in June if they already got one at the end of May.
