Social Security Payment After April 3: April is here, and for many retirees, that means waiting for their Social Security check. Some will get their money on Thursday, April 3, but not everyone. Only a specific group of retirees will see their payment on this day.

If you started receiving Social Security before May 1997, your payment will arrive on April 3. The Social Security Administration (SSA) says, “If you received Social Security before May 1997 or if you receive both Social Security and SSI, Social Security is paid on the 3rd and SSI on the 1st.”

What If You Retired After May 1997?

If you started getting Social Security after May 1997, your payment will come later in April. The SSA sends payments on Wednesdays, based on your birth date:

  • April 9: If your birthday is between the 1st and 10th of the month.
  • April 16: If your birthday is between the 11th and 20th.
  • April 23: If your birthday is between the 21st and 31st.

What If Your Payment Is Late?

Sometimes, payments get delayed. If yours doesn’t arrive on time, check if direct deposit is active. Make sure your SSA profile has the right information. You should also wait 3 business days. If it still doesn’t come, call your bank to check for issues. Most retirees get their money on schedule, but if there’s a delay, these steps can help.
