Denmark Women’s World Cup 2023 Squad: The Denmark Women’s World Cup 2023 team appears to be quite distinct from previous Denmark squads. Recent injuries to a number of their senior players have necessitated that the former Euro Cup finalists concentrate on developing a wealth of young talent.
After a period of inconsistent performance, they have recently amassed a string of positive results. They have won four consecutive friendlies, a feat they have not accomplished since June of last year. Their two most recent results were 1-0 victories against Sweden and Japan.
Stine Larsen scored the game-winning goal against Sweden in the 93rd minute, while Moeka Minami scored an own goal against Japan to give Denmark the victory. These two matches followed a 3-2 victory over Uruguay and a 2-0 victory over Norway in February’s Tournoi de France.
At Euro 2022, Denmark’s reliance on Pernille Harder was evident. Constantly attempting to get the ball to her feet, while opponents worked diligently to close her down. However, Denmark has had to prepare for this World Cup without Harder, who sustained a hamstring injury while on international duty and has been sidelined for six months due to surgery. The positive news for the Danes is that she returned for Chelsea against Barcelona in the semi-finals and should therefore be available for the World Cup.
It is less likely that Nadia Nadim will survive. It is unknown where she is in her rehabilitation after suffering two consecutive anterior cruciate ligament injuries in two seasons, the most recent occurring in September. Recent Instagram posts by Nadim show her back on the turf, but with only two and a half months until the World Cup, it will be a race against time for her to recover.
Nonetheless, Denmark’s squad will contain a large number of seasoned players. Katrine Veje and Sanne Troelsgaard are the second and fourth most capped competitors in history, respectively. Younger players, such as West Ham’s 22-year-old Emma Snerle and Everton’s 24-year-old Karen Holmgaard, are beginning to establish themselves in this Denmark team. However, the majority of attention will undoubtedly be on the 19-year-old midfielder Kathrine Kühl of Arsenal. Kühl has been described as technically more gifted than Harder was at the same age, and he will be aiming for a breakout World Cup.
Denmark are in Group D of the World Cup with England, Haiti, and China. Their first World Cup match is on July 22 against China. Below is their most recent team from April’s friendlies, prior to announcing their final World Cup squad by July 9.
