The background of Go Skateboarding Day

Back in 2004, the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) created Go Skateboarding Day. It intends to make skateboarding a community event and unite individuals. Through this event, the IASC hopes to encourage skateboarders to make this sport their top priority on Go Skateboard Day and to set aside all electronic devices.

This festive event aims to encourage skateboarding wherever there is a rideable surface, including skateparks, roads, etc. When the event was first held in Southern California, it featured skateboard sessions, demonstrations, barbecues, and other enjoyable activities.

Now, on this day, events, competitions, seminars, and fundraisers are held all over the world. On Go Skateboarding Day, skateboarders gather at local locations to perform and share tricks, learn from other professionals, or simply have fun.

Bryan Chin and Kerel ‘Srikala’ Roach established the first All-City Skate Jam in New York City in the same year that the day was established. This event was conducted in response to the effects of 9/11 on the skateboarding community.

Skateboarding represents defiance, independence, and originality. Go Skateboarding Day highlights the advantages of skateboarding and its contribution to individual empowerment. Thousands of people continue to throng to the streets of New York City to celebrate Go Skateboarding Day, making the city a significant hub for the event. You will not regret participating in this incredibly enjoyable day.
