National Golf Day highlights the psychological, social, physical, and environmental benefits of the sport. Today is a day to recollect that this excellent sport is accessible to all.

The background of National Golf Day

National Golf Day’s official creator and origin are still up for debate in the community. Unquestionably, the game has come a very long way since its inception. The earliest golf game dates back to the 15th century in Scotland, albeit in an unrecognisable form. In the distant past, golf was played with clubs or bent sticks to strike pebbles around tracks or dunes. In spite of the game’s immense popularity in Scotland, it ultimately became a problem. When the English invasion loomed, many individuals neglected military training in favour of golf. King James II and the Scottish Parliament banned the game wholly as a result. However, the majority of golfers disregarded the schedule.

In 1502, the first monarch to play golf was Scotland’s King James IV, who became the first golfing monarch in the globe. His passion for the game established the groundwork for what would become one of the world’s greatest sports. Although golf was played by royalty at the time, the equipment was basic. Until the early 1700s, golfers utilised beechwood weapons that were handcrafted. Because golf balls were essentially feathers enveloped in horsehide, they were inaccurate. According to rumour, golfers have even experimented with wooden golf balls.

The British dominion rose to prominence in the 19th century. As the nation’s political ambitions spread to every corner of the globe, so did golf. In many nations, the game attracted a significant fan base. Years later, the Industrial Revolution would disrupt economies and restructure traditional social structures. The railroads enabled commoners to travel beyond their towns and discover new realms, including the world of golf. Golf facilities began to proliferate throughout the countryside. In addition to harnessing the power of machines to manufacture clubs and balls on a commercial scale, businesses also utilised machine power. The game became an official phenomenon and more people were able to play it.

Golf enthusiasts in the United States founded the United States Golf Association (USGA) in 1894 to regulate the sport. Within five years, one thousand golf clubs appeared across the United States. Since that time, the United States has remained the heart and centre of professional golf. National Golf Day seeks, among other things, to make golf more inclusive.
