Norway Women’s FIFA World Cup 2023 Squad: Meet the Full 23-Player Team

In recent games, Norway has laboured with form, losing 4-2 to Spain and drawing 3-3 with Sweden in April.

Norway Women’s FIFA World Cup 2023 Squad: The Norway Women’s World Cup 2023 squad has been announced, with head coach Hege Riise forgoing the option to name a provisional squad and instead naming 23 players for the tournament.

In recent games, Norway has laboured with form, losing 4-2 to Spain and drawing 3-3 with Sweden in April.

Ada Hegerberg and Cesilie Andreassen’s goals were not enough to prevent Spain from defeating Norway, while Frida Maanum’s goal in the 96th minute was required to earn a draw against Sweden. Maanum and Karina Saevik scored two goals in ten second-half minutes to give Norway a 2-1 lead, but they found themselves trailing 3-2 in injury time. Fortunately, Maanum rescued them late in the game.

After a disappointing performance at the Euros in 2022, Norway has been attempting to rebuild. They were eliminated in the group stage after a humiliating 8-0 loss to England; many were stunned by how poorly they performed.

Since Hege Riise, a former World Cup champion, assumed leadership, results have been mixed, with victories against the Netherlands and Uruguay, but defeats against Denmark and France.

Former Ballon d’Or recipient Ada Hegerberg will be available for the World Cup, which is a major boost for Norway. Hegerberg skipped the 2019 World Cup to protest how the Norwegian national team was treated by the federation. She participated in Euro 2022, but has been injured for the majority of this season. However, she was able to return for the UWCL quarterfinals and has since appeared for Lyon on multiple occasions.

Additionally, Caroline Graham Hansen is available. Graham Hansen left the national team during the season so as not to overexert herself, as she had endured recurring injuries. However, she appears prepared for the World Cup and reaches the squad. Graham Hansen is unquestionably the world’s best right winger, and he and Hegerberg will look to be more lethal than they were at Euro 2022.

This season, two of the Women’s Super League’s most prominent players will also represent Norway. Guro Reiten of Chelsea and Frida Maanum of Arsenal were both nominated for the Player of the Season award. Reiten’s goals and assists have at times carried Chelsea through the season, while Maanum has stepped into an unfamiliar role at Arsenal following an injury crisis at the club. Both players will be expecting to replicate their club success at the World Cup.

Norway are in World Cup Group A alongside New Zealand, the Philippines, and Switzerland. On July 20, Norway will face New Zealand in their first World Cup match. Below is their World Cup roster of 23 players.
