Players Set to Miss ODI World Cup 2023: Big Names Benched

When it comes to New Zealand, skipper Kane Williamson is yet to play a competitive match since he picked up an ACL injury in March during the 2023 IPL.

Players Set to Miss ODI World Cup 2023: There have been multiple injury concerns leading up to the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is scheduled to commence in India on October 5th. Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who was named Player of the Tournament in the previous T20 Asia Cup, is the most recent cricketer to withdraw from the tournament.

In addition to Hasaranga, Sri Lanka will be without the services of Dushmantha Chameera during the World Cup and will rely heavily on rising stars such as Maheesh Theekshana, Mathews Pathirana, and Dilshan Madhushanka.

Anrich Nortje, Jofre Archer, and Naseem Shah have also been eliminated from the competition. Jason Roy has been cut from the team at the last minute, and Harry Brook has been named as his replacement. In addition to Nortje, South Africa will lose Sisanda Magala, for whom they have named Andile Phehlukwayo and Lizaaa Williams as replacements.

When it comes to New Zealand, skipper Kane Williamson is yet to play a competitive match since he picked up an ACL injury in March during the 2023 IPL. His health is being cautiously monitored, but he has been included in New Zealand’s World Cup squad. In addition, pacer Tim Southee recently sustained a thumb injury that could compel him to withdraw from the race, while Michael Bracewell has been ruled out due to an Achilles injury.

Rishabh Pant, who is recovering from multiple injuries sustained in an automobile accident last year, will miss the tournament for India, while Yuzvendra Chahal did not receive a call-up. Axar Patel is currently recovering from a left quadriceps injury, but he should be healthy for the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Travis Head’s future is uncertain as he is presently dealing with a hand injury. Marnus Labuschagne, who is not presently part of the World Cup squad, is expected to fill in for him. He is currently recovering from an injury and is likely to miss at least a few matches, if not the entire tournament.
