Sheikh Jassim Emerges as Contender: Despite the apparent failure of Sheikh Jassim’s bid to acquire Manchester United, his interest in the Premier League may still persist. The Qatari financier emerged as a prospective investor in the club almost immediately after the Glazer family disclosed their intentions to conduct a comprehensive financial strategic review last winter.
The proceeding appears to be nearing completion after Jassim and the probable new shareholder, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, engaged in nearly a year of correspondence. Ratcliffe’s most recent offer of approximately £1.5 billion ($1.8 billion) for a 25% stake and sporting control of the club is anticipated to be approved by the board following a vote.
Despite the fact that Ratcliffe has previously expressed considerable interest in purchasing an English club, this results in a very wealthy man and an ambitious group that some have deemed “the ideal owners” but have yet to accomplish anything. As acquisition rumours abound in the league, encompassing concerns regarding the enduring prospects of Tottenham, Liverpool, and others, Jassim is rumored to be considering a return for a further attempt at the dice.
On the It’s All Kicking Off podcast, Mike Keegan, a writer for the Daily Mail, predicted that Jassim would reconsider Liverpool as a possible suitor: “The Qataris set aside about $ 8 billion (£6.57 billion) for the United project,” according to him. “That money is readily available and burning a hole in their coffers; therefore, what a tale that would be [if they purchased Liverpool]!
“From what I am led to believe, they [Qataris] are very, very disappointed and angered at how this has played out. What better way to respond than to get United’s biggest rivals from down the road and throw all that money you were going to throw into Manchester United into making them pay for that decision not to sell to you.”
United had been attempting to sell the club for absurd amounts of money that significantly exceeded its estimated market value. However, Jassim reportedly refused to pay more than £5 billion ($6 billion), a price that Ratcliffe will surpass if he acquires the club in its entirety as planned for the future.
Nevertheless, that price is more than sufficient to acquire nearly every other team in world football, and fortunately for Jassim, there are two league-leading opponents that might be open to proposals if he desires it. Spurs remain in the discussion as well as Liverpool, which recently sold a minority stake to the U.S.-based firm Dynastu Equity for less than £150 million ($182 million). Liverpool is also investigating comparable investment opportunities.

“I’ve got no real interest in leaving Tottenham, but I have a duty to consider anything that anyone may want to propose. It’s not about me, it’s about what’s right for the club,” said chairman Daniel Levy earlier this year.
“We run this club as if it’s a public company. If anyone wants to make a serious proposition to the board of Tottenham we would consider it, along with our advisers, and if we felt it was in the interests of the club we would be open to anything.”
Therefore, nothing is off the agenda. In recent times, the north London club has been the subject of considerable intrigue, as MSP Sports Capital, rapper Jay-Z, and Qatar Sports Investment (QSI) have reportedly expressed interest in contributing funds in some capacity to the club.
It appears that Jassim has also considered Spurs, as Mark Ogden stated earlier this year in the United Stand, “They desire a presence in the Premier League.” Recently, I was informed by someone that if the Qataris do not acquire Manchester United, they will return and possibly acquire Tottenham instead.
“He said, look, if you’ve got Manchester City owned by Abu Dhabi, you’ve got Newcastle owned by Saudi Arabia, if Qataris maybe buy Tottenham, then you’ve got three clubs who can pull away.”
Although Jassim does not possess an estimated net worth or value, his father does, and it is worth £892 million (approximately $1.2 billion). Although this may seem insignificant in comparison to other proprietors presently operating in the Premier League, the family is reportedly worth a staggering £275 billion ($334.4 billion), which is by far the most substantial amount currently available. Accepting a substantial offer could be extremely difficult, if not impossible.
