World Athletics Championships 2023: Neeraj Chopra of India once again entered the annals of history by winning the men’s javelin throw event at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, on Sunday.

Neeraj Chopra has now won every major title attainable in his discipline, completing a very special collection. Neeraj Chopra has won the Asian Athletics Championships (2017), Asian Games (2018), and Commonwealth Games (2018) in addition to his Olympic and world championship golds and Diamond League title.

Neeraj Chopra entered Budapest 23 as the first Indian track and field athlete to earn an Olympic gold medal (Tokyo 2020), the Diamond League championship (2022), and the junior world championships (2016).

“This was fantastic,” said Neeraj Chopra. “After winning gold at the Olympics, I was determined to win the global championships. I simply desired to hurl further. This is fantastic for the national team, but my goal was to win the gold medal at the world championships.

The Indian ace continued, “This has been a great championship for India, and I am proud to bring another title to my country.” “I don’t believe I’m the greatest thrower in this area. Tonight, I wanted to hurl more. I wished to throw further than 90 metres tonight, but the puzzle pieces must be in place. I was unable to put everything together this evening. Perhaps next time”

Neeraj Chopra, who holds the men’s javelin national record of 89.94 metres, also claimed silver at the world championships in Oregon last year. It was India’s second medal ever after Anju Bobby George claimed bronze in the women’s long jump at the 2003 World Championships in Paris.

After missing his first attempt, Neeraj Chopra threw 88.17 metres to seize the lead and maintain it for the remainder of the competition.

Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, the incumbent Commonwealth Games champion, won silver with a season’s best of 87.82 metres, while Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic won bronze with 86.60 metres.

The other two Indian competitors in the 12-person finals of the javelin throw in Budapest also posted impressive results. Kishore Jena placed fifth with a personal best of 84.77 metres, while DP Manu placed sixth with 84.14 metres.
