These days, mechanical keyboards are more of a passion than a necessity. To make keyboards, people invest thousands of dollars. Custom novelty product manufacturer 8BitDo introduced a brand-new mechanical keyboard. It was modelled by Nintendo’s renowned NES and Famicom systems from the 1980s. With wired and wireless connectivity, programmable key mapping, and two enormous, tactile red buttons. The $100 Retro Mechanical Keyboard combines retro aesthetics with functionality. Even more sets of the enormous mashable buttons are available to customers for $20 each.

The “N Edition” of this peripheral draws inspiration from the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The “Fami Edition” pays homage to the Nintendo Famicom. Both versions’ colour schemes are eerily close to those of their vintage console equivalents. The Famicom edition charms with a white/crimson combo. The NES-inspired variant sports a sleek white/dark gray/black colour pattern.

8BitDo’s Latest Nintendo-style Mechanical Keyboard Features

With the Fami Edition, 8BitDo expanded on the retro aesthetic by adding both Japanese and English characters to every alphanumeric key. The dials and power indicators on this variant are also retro. The keyboard’s Super Buttons, which can be replaced by the user thanks to a hot-swappable PCB. These are made of Kailh Box White Switches V2 and Gatreon Green Switches. The Super Buttons, including the two large ones included with the keyboard. They connect to the keyboard directly through a 3.5mm port and may be customised using 8BitDo’s Ultimate Software. If you discover that you require more, extra sets can be bought for $20 apiece.

This keyboard has 87 keys and can operate in Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz wireless , and USB wired modes. It works with Windows, Android, and 8BitDo has confirmed that it works with macOS. The keyboard’s 2,000mAh battery provides about 200 hours of operation after only a four-hour charge. For $100, you can pre-order the keyboard directly from 8BitDo or on Amazon. Shipping is scheduled to start on August 10.
