iOS 17: How to Enable iPhone Standby

Large, readily visible elements bring the data to life on your iPhone, whether it's at your bedside or in your workspace. Here are the steps for activating and utilizing StandBy on your iPhone so that you can exploit its maximum potential.

What to understand

  • To enable StandBy, navigate to Settings > StandBy > Activate the StandBy switch.
  • Users of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 have access to Motion To Wake and Always On, which are unavailable on older iPhones.
  • Feel free to modify Standby to meet your specific requirements. It is also very appealing!
  • And if you develop a dislike for it, you can turn StandBy off in a flash.

iOS 17: The introduction of ‘StandBy’ is a major new iPhone feature introduced with iOS 17 update. This nifty tool comes to life when your iPhone is recharging and in a quiescent state, offering a snapshot of useful information like reminders, the current time, imminent events, your calendar, and weather forecasts.

Large, readily visible elements bring the data to life on your iPhone, whether it’s at your bedside or in your workspace. Here are the steps for activating and utilizing StandBy on your iPhone so that you can exploit its maximum potential.

How to activate Standby mode on an iPhone

  • Here’s how to activate StandBy on an iPhone. The procedures listed below will assist you with the process.

Update to iOS 17 is mandatory. (Check the Software Update section under Settings > General > Settings).

Launch the iPhone’s Settings app and select Standby.

Now tap and enable the StandBy toggle at the top

Next, tap and enable the Always On switch if you have an iPhone 14 Pro or later. This allows StandBy to remain visible while the iPhone detects your attention. It will automatically switch off the display when you stop looking at it.

If you’re using an iPhone older than iPhone 14 Pro, select the Night Mode toggle to activate it. Night mode enables the StandBy to be displayed in low-light conditions with a red tint. This reduces eye discomfort when viewing the StandBy display mode in low-light conditions.

If you have an iPhone 14 Pro or later, select Night Mode to access its configuration options.

Now select and turn on the Night Mode toggle to activate it, as we did for older iPhones previously.

Here is how Night Mode compares to the standard StandBy.

Tap and enable the Motion To Wake switch if you want your iPhone’s display to turn on when it detects motion at night.

There are additional options for customizing the behavior of your iPhone in StandBy. Go back to the previous page to access these options. If you wish to observe notifications while in StandBy, tap and enable the toggle for Show Notifications.

You can increase the privacy of your notifications by activating the Show Preview on Tap Only switch. This will hide notification previews until you touch on them.

Your iPhone now supports StandBy. You can test and verify the same by charging your iPhone in landscape mode while it is stationary.
