Each employee is given a district account that they can use to access district email and a number of online resources. The single sign-on (SSO) account for employees is what it is called. To activate your account, whether you’re a new or returning employee, follow the instructions below.

  4. Specify if you are an official LAUSD employee or a contractor. Independent charter schools should choose non-employee for contractors and staff. Depending on whether you are an employee or a non-employee, the next processes are slightly different.

Steps for Employees

  • Type in your eight-digit employee number (often with two zeros at the front, such as 00723671), your birthdate in the format MM/DD/YYYY, and your social security number’s final four digits. Click Next.
  • A screen displaying the email address you have on file will appear. You may now choose a password. Make sure you adhere to the password rules provided below. Select your preferred password, type it twice (once for confirmation) where it reads “New Password,” and then click “Next.”
  • A screen stating that the account setup was successful will appear. Try again, paying close attention to the password rules, if you do not see this screen and see any error warnings.
  • Contact the IT HelpDesk for assistance with this procedure.

Steps for Non-employees

  • Type in your LAUSD ID number (also known as your contractor number or the number given to you when you requested a LAUSD account), your birthdate in the format MM/DD/YYYY, and your social security number’s last four digits. Click Next.
  • A screen displaying the email address you have on file will appear. You may now choose a password. Make sure you adhere to the password rules provided below. Enter your preferred password twice, first under “New Password” and again under “Confirm Password.”
  • After that, pick a hint query and a response. This will enable you to use our automated online tools to reset a lost password. Click Next.
  • A screen similar to the one above will appear to let you know that your account has been successfully created. Try again, paying close attention to the password rules, if you do not see this screen and see any error warnings.

Guidelines for Passwords

1. There must be between 8 and 20 characters in your password.

2. Your user ID and password cannot be the same.

3. At least one alphabetical and one numerical character must be present in your password.

5. Dictionary terms longer than six characters (e.g., “kitchen”) or popular letter combinations (e.g., “abcde” or “12345”) will not be allowed as passwords.
