Microsoft’s IndexNow Plugin: Enhancing WordPress Website Indexing: Enhancing WordPress Website Indexing

The plugin is readily located in the WordPress Plugin Directory.

Microsoft’s IndexNow Plugin: Microsoft has published the IndexNow plugin in order to index additional content from a WordPress website to various search engines.

The plugin is readily located in the WordPress Plugin Directory.

The plugin’s primary function is to index URLs from a WordPress website in various search engines.

This plugin indexes the URL even if the website has not been verified by the respective search engine.

After installation, the plugin will generate an API Key for the site.

This API Key determines whether a document has been modified, created, or deleted.

Once the page status has been received, the API will ping the search engine accordingly.

Microsoft’s IndexNow Plugin: How to employ it?

Install the plugin from this page in order to use it.

The final step is to enable the automatic submission feature.

The plugin will automatically capture the URL to ping to search engine crawlers.

Even though the plugin supports automatic URL submittal, it is also possible to manually submit a URL.

Features

In addition to submitting URLs for indexing, you can also view a catalogue of the most recently submitted URLs.

The plugin also assists users in identifying the list of URLs that were not successfully submitted.

It also lists recent successful and unsuccessful submissions.

This is an open-source plugin, and you can view its complete source code here.

The plugin is created using the following six programming languages:

  • JavaScript
  • PHP
  • TypeScript
  • SCSS
  • HTML
  • Hack

Contributers

Pingal Dixit and Mavarsh are the only two contributors to the plugin at the time of composing this article.

WordPress 6.3 Introduces Easier Website Customization: Enhanced User Experience

Microsoft’s IndexNow Plugin: What exactly is IndexNow?

IndexNow is a simple ping protocol that notifies search engines when a page has been updated, purged, or altered.

Microsoft Bing and Yandex had already adopted the IndexNow protocol, while Google is in the process of evaluating it. Thus, if you use the IndexNow module, any changes you make to your website’s content are immediately reflected on Bing and Yandex.

If you own a WordPress website and use Cloudflare, you do not need to install this plugin, as Cloudflare already includes an option to enable the IndexNow protocol for your website.

Crawler Hints is the name of the option, which is currently in beta but will soon be reliable.
