PS5 DualSense V2 controller just released: What’s new?

The PlayStation 5 V2 DualSense Wireless Controller-White has been listed for CAN$89 by Best Buy Canada, addressing a common issue with the original PS5 pad.

PS5 DualSense V2 controller: It looks like Best Buy accidentally released the DualSense controller V2, which could address the most frequently reported issue with the original PS5 pad.

This week, Best Buy Canada posted a listing page with a price of CAN$89 for a “PlayStation 5 V2 DualSense Wireless Controller-White.”

In The Great White North, a standard DualSense controller retails for the same amount. No release date is specified in the ad, and DualSense V2 orders are not being accepted at this time.

The DualSense V2 listing is still active as of right now (Thursday, January 11), but as Sony has not yet formally verified this PS5 peripheral, it could be removed at any time.

What has DualSense V2 added?

It is impossible to discern any discernible differences between the DualSense V2 and the PS5 controller we have been using for the past three years from the provided photographs. It looks to be the same even with the outside box. Assuming that Best Buy has not made a mistake in selling this item, it would seem that the new DualSense controller is essentially unchanged from the outside.

But the product description section does tell us what’s within the black and white plastic body of the DualSense V2. The V2 model will have all of the same features as its predecessor, including an integrated microphone, adjustable triggers, and haptic feedback, as you would certainly anticipate.

Additionally, according to the ad, the DualSense V2 will come with a “charging station” that “offers easy click-in charging” and guarantees a “long gaming session” with a “exceptional 12-hour battery life, on a full charge.” The PlayStation community is highly aware of the existing DualSense controller’s poor battery life, so the latter in particular would be a major improvement.

With the standard DualSense controller, you can anticipate getting five to six hours of wireless use on a full charge; if you’re using the ultra-premium DualSense Edge controller, that number lowers to as little as four hours.

It would be much better if the battery life was increased to about twelve hours, as this would prevent gamers from constantly reaching for a USB-C charging cord. Furthermore, having a charging station included would be a welcome bonus.

Is there a DualSense V2?

Sony has not yet responded to inquiries about the authenticity of this listing. Even though it comes from a reliable source, it’s always possible that Best Buy made a mistake and an incorrect listing accidentally went live. It’s advisable to lower your expectations until we hear from official sources in case the DualSense V2 is never released.

Concurrently, reports are circulating on the internet that a PlayStation State of Play event is scheduled for this month. These two stories may complement one other well. A new DualSense model may be introduced to the public during this presentation. However, as of yet, there has been no official announcement of a new State of Play presentation.
