Ray-Ban Smart Glasses And AI Magic: Meta has just concluded its 2023 Connect keynote. As promised, the company has significantly more information about its Meta Quest 3 headpiece to share. In collaboration with Ray-Ban, it also revealed the most recent smart spectacles. In a surprising turn of events, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, also had AI updates to discuss.

Meta first introduced the Quest 3 in June, before Apple announced the Vision Pro. However, we were required to wait a few months for the full specifications of Meta’s mixed reality headgear, which we had previously tested.

The Meta Quest 3 is capable of integrating augmented reality features into your physical environment and supports full-color passthrough. It is the first consumer device to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor, and according to Meta, it outperforms the Quest 2. There will be an increase in resolution and depth of field, but the refresh rate will remain at 90Hz.

The most recent model incorporates a dial for adjusting inter-pupillary distance, which should make it more comfortable for those who wear glasses (hi). Meta has added haptic feedback to the Quest controllers and eliminated the tracking rings, claiming that new sensors can manage tracking instead.

In December, the Quest 3 will support Xbox Cloud Gaming alongside an array of upcoming native VR games and experiences. You can use the headset to execute work if you so choose. Before the end of the year, Microsoft 365 applications will be available on Quest, and Windows will shortly be available on the headsets.

The third installment of The Meta Quest is now available for pre-order. The price ranges from $500 for a model with 128GB of storage to $650 for twice as much storage. The 512GB model comes with a six-month trial of Meta Quest+, and for a limited time, both editions include Asgard’s Wrath 2. On 10 October, the headgear will be available for purchase.

Meta exhibited yet another hardware device at Connect. It collaborated with Ray-Ban to produce yet another pair of intelligent eyewear.

In comparison to the Ray-Ban Stories, the Ray-Ban Meta smart spectacles have significantly improved specifications. A wide-angle camera with 12 megapixels can record 1080p video at 60 frames per second. The maximum duration for video capture is sixty seconds, which is ideal for Instagram Stories. The spectacles include 32GB of storage space.

Five microphones are capable of recording spatial noises. The speakers generate less noise and are more powerful. A second frame design is currently available, and the charging container resembles a standard Ray-Ban carrying case.

Pre-orders for the Ray-Ban Meta smart spectacles are now available. The device will be available on October 17 for a starting price of $299.

AI Upgrades

In 2023, AI is unavoidable, so Meta provided updates on that front. The company now offers several dozen AI chatbot characters voiced by a who’s who (in some cases, literally) of celebrities. Meta AI, the company’s new branded generative AI assistant, will be accessible on platforms including WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and the new hardware.

Meanwhile, Instagram is incorporating AI-generated photo retouching. You will be able to alter the appearance of images by, for example, giving them the look of a watercolor painting. On the horizon is a green screen feature powered by generative AI, similar to the one recently introduced by YouTube. Additionally, emoticons generated by AI will be accessible on Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Facebook Stories.
