Samsung unveils new foldable smartphones, seeking keep lead in growing market

The SmartTag 2 received Bluetooth SIG certification with Bluetooth 5.3 capability last month. An upgrade from Bluetooth 5.2 in its predecessor, with the goal of improving battery usage, device performance, and user experience. The subsequent appearance of the SmartTag 2 with the EI-T5600 model number in an FCC application provides additional corroboration. The gadget was first discovered in the Bluetooth database, which raised interest in its launch.

 

Unexpectedly, Samsung changed its design strategy for the Galaxy SmartTag 2. They are giving it an oblong shape instead of the rectangular one of the first generation. It now has a significantly bigger hole for keychains.  However its precise size is unknown because there aren’t any points of comparison.

The SmartTag 2 has Bluetooth LE and UWB (Ultra-Wide Band) connection, according to key information from the FCC application. This is especially remarkable because only one of the original SmartTag’s two versions, the SmartTag+, included UWB connectivity. The FCC filing makes no mention of a “Plus” variant, which raises the possibility of a single next-generation device that supports Bluetooth and UWB connectivity.

Notably, the SmartTag 2 only refers to itself as such in its FCC application and does not have a “2” in its printed name. Additional upgrades over the original include a longer-lasting battery and improved wireless range, security, and range.

Despite these details, Samsung has kept a rather low profile regarding the Galaxy SmartTag 2’s release date, and the new model was not introduced during the recent Galaxy Unpacked event, which would have been a wonderful venue for the announcement. However, in light of these advances, a 2024 release would not be at all unexpected.
