Xreal introduces new AR glasses, the Air 2 Ultra, to compete with Apple’s Vision Pro

Xreal, a leading AR manufacturer, unveiled the Air 2 Ultra at CES 2024, aiming to capture a share of the high-end market before Apple's Vision Pro's release.

A well-known manufacturer of augmented reality (AR) spectacles, Xreal, debuted the Air 2 Ultra at CES 2024. Evidently, Xreal is competing for a portion of the high-end augmented reality market, as this occurs prior to the highly anticipated release of Apple’s Vision Pro.

By integrating two 3D sensors with sophisticated computer vision technology, the Air 2 Ultra enables users to manipulate physical objects in a digital environment. This facilitates the development of innovative applications such as virtual furniture placement, 3D object manipulation, and immersive gaming experiences.

The Air 2 Ultra resembles fashionable spectacles in appearance, which contributes to their long-lasting comfort. For a snug fit, they feature adjustable temples and three sizes of nasal pads despite weighing only 80 grams.

How to pair Apple Watch to a new iPhone?

These are the first titanium augmented reality (AR) spectacles to feature Sony’s Micro OLED panels. A Full HD display with a 52-degree field of view and 42 pixels per degree is presented to each eye, outperforming the Apple Vision Pro in terms of clarity. Xreal asserts that a 154-inch virtual screen can be projected onto the environment.

In addition to a refresh rate of 120Hz and a luminosity of 500 nits, the display is also suitable for outdoor use. Voice interaction, auto-dimming optics for enhanced immersion, and directional audio for privacy are additional features.

Please be aware that the Air 2 Ultra, in contrast to standalone headsets, necessitates the use of external processing power sourced from a computer, smartphone, or Xreal’s Beam module. Given that it costs $699 as opposed to Apple’s rumored $3,499 Vision Pro, this does indeed make it lighter and potentially more affordable. However, this also necessitates the use of compatible hardware for processing capacity.

As the SDK will receive substantial enhancements in the coming months and there won’t be much augmented reality content available at launch, Air 2 Ultra is primarily intended for developers at this time, according to Xreal.
