Her ancestry is Welsh, German, and English. Her father enrolled her in the American Youth Soccer Organisation (A.Y.S.O.) to introduce her to soccer. At the age of 14, she joined Cypress Elite and also played for the Olympic Development Programme (ODP) state and regional teams. Due to her success with the O.D.P., she was recruited to the U.S. under-20 women’s national soccer team.
In 2006, she suffered a severe injury while playing with a male team, which prevented her from competing until 2008. Despite her national team obligations, she attended U.C. Berkeley from 2007 to 2010 and played for the California Golden Bears, for whom she tallied the third-most goals. She was the first player selected overall by the Western New York Flash. She became the first athlete from the California Golden Bears to be drafted in the first round of the Women’s Professional Soccer (W.P.S.) draught. In 2012, following the dissolution of the W.P.S., Morgan joined the Seattle Sounders. She represented the United States at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, where the team claimed a gold medal. Additionally, she won her first world cup with the United States national team in 2015.
In 2016, she was transferred to Orlando, where she spent one season before joining the French club Lyon. She made an immediate impact by joining the club and even scored a hat trick in one game. After only one season, she relocated back to Orlando in 2017. In 2019, she won her second world cup with the national team of the United States. Morgan is the reigning women’s football champion.
