Bootsy Collins Biography: The birthplace of William Earl Collins is Cincinnati, Ohio. His mother sent him into the world of childhood with his brother, Phelps “Catfish” Collins. He formed The Pacemakers, a funk band, with his older brother and several of their friends when he turned seventeen. James Brown engaged the services of the Pacemakers as his backing band in 1970. Known as The J.B.’s, they collaborated with him for nearly a year. The Pacemakers collaborated with James Brown on a number of funk compositions, such as ‘Super Bad,’ ‘Bewildered,’ and ‘The Grunt.’
Collins returned to Cincinnati, where he and his brother, along with five others, formed another band called House Guests.
