Colin Firth Birthday
Colin Andrew Firth was born in Grayshott, Hampshire, England, in 1960. His mother, Shirley Jean, was a comparative religion lecturer at the University of Winchester, while his father, David Norman Lewis Firth, was a history lecturer and education officer in the Nigerian Government at the time. As a result of his father’s profession, Firth’s family moved frequently during his boyhood. They lived in Nigeria and then the United States before his parents decided to return to the United Kingdom. Firth is the eldest of three siblings; both of his siblings are also actors. Despite the fact that both of his parents were academics, Firth never demonstrated much interest in his studies. Still, he attended Barton Peveril Sixth Form College, where, inspired by his teacher Penny Edwards, he fell in love with English literature.
When Firth graduated from secondary school, he had already decided to work towards a professional acting career. He joined the National Youth Theatre before attending the London Drama Centre. Before making his film debut in 1984 with the adaptation of the play “Another Country,” Firth worked on a variety of plays; however, he did not experience his significant breakthrough until many years later. In 1995, he was cast as Mr. Darcy in a television adaptation of Jane Austen’s renowned novel “Pride and Prejudice.” This role brought Firth greater recognition and the career boost he needed. Then, he began to receive more prominent assignments. He appeared in a number of successful films, including “The English Patient,” “Shakespeare in Love,” “Bridget Jones’s Diary,” and “Love Actually.” In 2010, Firth won the Oscar for Best Actor for his depiction of King George VI in “The King’s Speech.”
In 1990, Firth gave birth to his son, William Joseph Firth. Following in his father’s footsteps, William became an actor. In 1997, Firth wed the Italian Livia Giuggioli, with whom he had two sons, Luca and Matteo. In 2019, the couple divorced.
